How to replace the bulb in a projector lamp?

Bare bulbs are only offered where the installation/ replacement is simple and easy.
For lamps where the bare bulb installation is not judged as simple, this option will not be offered.

IMPORTANT: Do not touch the glass area of the lamp with bare hands.
Natural oil from your hands can seriously impact on the performance of the unit or cause the lamp to shatter when it reaches very high temperatures.
Always use clean rubber/protective gloves when handling the bulb and lamp. Use a dry cloth to clean the lamp if it was accidentally touched.

Preventing finger grease by wearing gloves is a requirement under the warranty.

Always use the appropriate tools to uninstall and install the bulb. In most cases you will only require standard screwdrivers but in rare cases, security tools are necessary.

Before you start we recommend you have a good look at your current lamp and make a note of how it is assembled, in particular where the positive and negative terminals are and how they are connected.
If necessary, take a picture so you can check back while installing the new bulb.

Take your time!

  1. Unscrew the wires connected to the bare bulb on your lamp, remembering where they should be connected on the new bulb.
  2. Remove the retaining clip that is holding your old bare projector lamp in place and remove the old bulb.
  3. Carefully place the new bulb in the module (use gloves!) and fasten the retaining clip.
  4. Screw the wires onto the new bulb one by one, taking care not to mix the negative and positive terminals (mixing the terminals will cause the lamp not to function and may invalidate the warranty).

Take care and time when unscrewing and screwing bolts.  Over tightening the mainbolt on some lamps can cause overstress on the ceramics and cause them to crack.  This once again is not covered under the warranty.
