Following last year's launch of the VPL-VW590ES and VPL-VW790ES, Sony have now announced two new 4K home cinema models. The new VPL-VW290ES is replacing the popular VPL-VW270ES and the new VPL-VW890ES replaces the VPL-VW870ES.
In line with the recently launched models, the two new models build up on their predecessors and now also feature the X1 processor, based on technology used in BRAVIA televisions and optimised for projection.
The X1 processor combines technologies for high precision frame analysis with Dynamic HDR Enhancer and Super Resolution Reality Creation for a high-quality picture.
The VPL-VW290ES and VPL-VW890ES are designed to deliver an image as close to film creators' true intent as possible with high contrast, texture and detail to give viewers the most immersive viewing experiences.
Dynamic HDR Enhancer
Dynamic HDR Enhancer analyses and optimises HDR, frame by frame, to extend the dynamic range, enhance saturation and details. This feature delivers the best contrast on HDR content with bright highlights and darker dark scenes.
Super Resolution Reality Creation
Super Resolution Reality Creation is the market leading image upscaling and enhancement feature. Scenes are analysed to enrich 4K content, real world details and texture while 2K and Full HD content is upscaled close to 4K.
As you would expect, the new models feature native 4K SXRD panels for incredibly life-like images and vibrant colours.
The VPL-VW290ES is lamp based with 1500 lumens brightness while the VPL-VW890ES features a laser light source to produce 2200 lumens brightness and both models feature 4K Motion Flow and Input Lag Reduction for gaming.
Unlike the models in the lower price brackets, the VPL-VW890ES uses an all-glass ARC-F lens to deliver ultimate clarity with consistent centre to corner focus across the colour spectrum. An optional interchangeable short throw lens is also available.
In addition and to further enhance the picture quality, the VPL-VW890ES features Dual Contrast Control for deeper blacks and Digital Focus Optimiser for clarity.
