At the end of April Sony announced two new additions to their home cinema projector range.
Available to pre-order now, the new VPL-XW5000ES and VPL-XW7000ES models are native 4K SXRD laser projectors and they are impressive!
Smaller and Kinder to the Planet
Like other models in the Sony home cinema range, the VPL-XW series projectors are both available in black or white, but the first thing you may notice with these new models is that they are smaller and lighter than their predecessors.
Compared to the VPL-VW790ES, the new 2000 lumens VPL-XW5000ES is 30% smaller in size and 35% lighter, making it the most compact Native 4K HDR laser home cinema projector in the world!
The VPL-XW7000ES is also a noteworthy 20% smaller and 30% lighter than the VPL-VW790ES, yet delivering a striking 3200 lumens.
Along with reducing the size of the chassis, Sony have also reduced the amount of virgin plastic used for the main body by more than 25% on the VPL-XW5000ES and more than 20% on the VPL-XW7000ES. Packaging materials were reduced by more than 15% for both models as well.
To complete the efforts to be kinder to the planet, the power consumption per lumen has been reduced by an outstanding 30% on the XW5000ES and 40% on the XW7000ES compared to the VPL-VW790ES.
What About The Picture?
Both the VPL-XW5000ES and the VPL-XW7000ES feature the all-new 0.61-inch SXRD panel for high brightness, deep blacks, vibrant colours and rich tones and textures, and are powered by Sony's "X1 Ultimate for Projector" processor enabling even richer inky blacks, clear, cinematic motion and image smoothness.
They also feature Dynamic HDR Enhancer and Object-based Super Resolution to create a greater dynamic range and unrivalled image clarity.
For even more true to life colours, the VPL-XW Series also features Triluminos Pro and wide colour gamut covering 95% of the cinema-standard DCI-P3 colour space.
At their price points, these two models are very hard to beat on image quality, colours, tones and textures.
What Else?
While the VPL-XW5000ES includes a manual lens, the VPL-XW7000ES includes a new, motorised zoom, Advanced Crisp-Focused (ACF) Lens with a 70mm aspherical front lens element that widens the focus area, ensuring clear images from corner to corner.
The Picture Position Memory on the VPL-XW7000ES also makes it easy to store and switch between different aspect ratios with different focus, zoom and lens shift settings.
