SMART have announced changes to the SMART Notebook software name, coming into effect from 1st June 2022 with version 22.

Currently, customers subscribing to SMART Learning Suite have access to Lumio (SMART's online digital learning tool) and the full version of SMART Notebook while customers without a subscription have access to the free SMART Notebook basic software.

In the version 22 of SMART Notebook, the basic subscription-free software will now be known as SMART Notebook and the paid subscription version will be renamed SMART Notebook Plus.
This change is to more accurately reflect the enhancements included in the subscription based version of the software such as tool add-ons and access to web-based features.

Do I need to do anything with my existing software?

The good news is you don't need to do anything.

If you currently subscribe to SMART Learning Suite, you don't need a new subscription and the renewal process remains the same. You can still access your paid subscription features by logging into the software with your SMART ID or by activating your software with a licence key.
In effect nothing will change in the subscription-based software except the name of the paid subscription features.

What will happen to existing lessons?

SMART Notebook 22 remains backwards compatible so all lesson material created using previous versions of Notebook, both free and paid, can be run in Notebook 22.

What features are included in SMART Notebook Plus?

As of version 22, the paid subscription features of SMART Notebook Plus included are:

  • Access to build and deliver game-based activities*
  • Access to build and deliver formative assessments*
  • Connect student devices to Notebook for game-based activities and assessments*
  • Concept Mapping add-on

Using SMART Notebook on non-SMART interactive displays

From the SMART Notebook version 22 release, the free SMART Notebook software (formerly SMART Notebook basic) will have restricted touch and interaction when used with non-SMART interactive displays.
If you are using SMART Learning Suite in a mixed hardware implementation, you may want to ensure users can access Notebook Plus features including touch (subject to manufacturers specifications) by provisioning them in the SMART Admin Portal or activating their software with a licence key.

Is the free SMART Notebook changing?

Starting with version 22, the free SMART Notebook will not have a watermark anymore and users will be able to access image and video search features, however touch will be restricted when used with non-SMART interactive displays.
